This mask of is one of a suite of four masks, winter, spring, summer and fall.  It is #6 in a limited edition of 250.  Each mask is hand painted and finished making each sculpture one-of-a-kind.

Pele is the Hawaiian Volcano Goddess. In ancient Hawaiian chants she is described as passionate, volatile and capricious.  She was born as a flame in the mouth of her earth mother, Haumea.  She is the earth goddess creating new land with every outpouring of lava.

Creating sculptures of Hawaiian goddesses is my way of honoring the Hawaiian culture and femininity in general.
